Om Namo Bhagavate is a popular mantra at the core of the Vaishnavism tradition.
ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय
Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya
Om, I bow to Lord Vasudeva or Lord Krishna
This twelve syllable mantra is known as a Mukti (liberation) mantra and a spiritual formula for attaining freedom.
Also known as the Dwadasakshari or twelve-syllable mantra, Om Namo Bhagavate is a prayer to Lord Vishnu in the incarnation of Krishna. The rishi (seer or sage) varies according to the tradition—the rishi is Prajapati in the Tantric tradition and Narada in the Puranic tradition. Either way, both traditions agree that this mantra refers to Vishnu. The mantra is believed to be a moksha (liberation) mantra, designed to free one from samsara (reincarnation). It is considered a maha (great) mantra.
