Story of the Sri Narashima Mantra
Narashimha is the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu — a spiritual being with human characteristics and animal nature. This avatar killed an evil demon who received a blessing from Brahma of never dying, and no human nor an animal could kill him using any weapon, day or night, on the earth or a courtyard.
The demon, Hiranyakasipu, hated Lord Vishnu. First, because Lord Vishnu killed his brother Hiranyaksha with a previous incarnation of Varaha, and lastly, because Hiranyakasipu’s son Prahlad was devoted to him. His eternal life would give him time and power to kill Lord Vishnu.
Hiranyakasipu tried to destroy Prahlad’s devotion toward Lord Vishnu and even tried to kill him when his son told him that Vishnu was the only God.
Lord Narashimha was the only being that could kill Hiranyakasipu. At one point, Narashimha emerged from a pillar with a human body and lion head and killed Hiranyakasipu at twilight at a courtroom using his nails.
How do Mantras Work?
A mantra is a sacred word or sounds repeated frequently with religious and spiritual powers.
In Sanskrit, the word mantra is broken down into two parts:
- Man: to think or mind;
- Tra: to protect, to free from bondage;
Mantras are instruments used in meditation. They are sounds used to energize an intention. A mantra chanted aloud, mentally, or when listened to reaches the subconscious mind and adjusts your vibrations.
We can change our karma through mantras and overcome something we may have done in ignorance. In addition, the use of mantras can heal our karmic conditions, which include physical, emotional, and spiritual.
